Yarn Bases

Lionhead Fingering Weight & Worsted Weight
100% Organic Cotton
Made in Peru

Fingering weight: 437 yards per 100 grams
Worsted weight: 164 yards per 100 grams

Lionhead is a 100% organic cotton yarn that offers airy softness ideal for year-round crafting, especially warm-weather garments. The organic cotton absorbs color differently than our Pima cotton bases; the colors will look less saturated and generally softer. Similar to wool, the stitches bloom once the completed project is washed. Like all cotton, the fibers will continue to soften with each wear and wash.

Lionhead fingering weight is perfect for lightweight projects like baby clothes, summer tops, and shawls. Lionhead worsted weight provides a cozier, more substantial feel that works beautifully for sweaters, blankets, and home décor. Worsted weight cotton is heavier than wool of the same weight, so expect your project to grow in length.

Hint: Add a strand of mohair or suri with your Lionhead yarn to make a(n even) cozier result perfect for transitional weather!

Note: Lionhead has no elasticity or recovery, so it’s best used for projects that do not require negative ease.

Rex Fingering Weight & Worsted Weight
100% Pima Cotton
Made in Peru

Light fingering weight: 437 yards per 100 grams
Worsted weight: 181 yards per 100 grams

Rex is a 100% Pima cotton yarn known for its smoothness, durability, and gentle sheen. Pima cotton is made from extra long staple cotton fibers, which reduce pilling and extend the lifespan of the fiber. Like all cotton, the fibers will continue to soften with each wear and wash. The fingering weight of Rex, available in both mercerized and un-mercerized finishes, offers extra versatility for lightweight projects. The Rex worsted weight is only available in a mercerized finish.

The mercerized version has a lustrous finish that improves stitch definition and makes the colors look extremely vivid. The mercerized process also extends (even more!) the life of the yarn; it softens the yarn and makes it less prone to stretching out.

The un-mercerized version, meanwhile, has a soft, matte texture, making it similar to our Lionhead organic cotton base; similarly, the colors on the un-mercerized yarn base will be muted compared to the mercerized finish. However, unlike our Lionhead base, the stitches don’t tend to bloom as much after being washed, due to the extra long staple fibers.

Note: Rex has no elasticity or recovery, so it’s best used for projects that do not require negative ease.

Pika DK Weight
70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen
Made in Peru

246 yards per 100 grams

Pika DK is a blend of 70% Tanguis cotton and 30% unbleached linen, offering softness and gentle structure. The Tanguis cotton brings a plush feel to this yarn, while the linen adds durability and a light sheen. This yarn is perfect for everything from summer tops to transitional cardigans and accessories. The linen and cotton fibers will continue to soften and bloom over time; the linen content will also limit some of the stretch that cotton is known for.

Note: Pika has no elasticity or recovery, so it’s best used for projects that do not require negative ease.

Jackrabbit Fingering Weight
70% Linen / 30% Pima Cotton
Made in Peru

Light fingering weight: 360 yards per 100 grams

Our Jackrabbit base is a lightweight fingering yarn that combines the strength and coolness of linen with the softness and durability of Pima cotton, creating a breathable fabric perfect for warm-weather projects. This chainette yarn produces crisp stitch definition and has an incredible drape, making it ideal for lacework and lightweight garments like summer tops and shawls. The linen/cotton blend will continue to soften over time while retaining its structure, as the high linen content will reduce the stretch that cotton is known for.

Note: Jackrabbit has no elasticity or recovery, so it’s best used for projects that do not require negative ease.

Velveteen Fingering Weight
65% Silk, 35% Linen
Made in Canada

Light fingering weight: 430 yards per 100 grams

Velveteen is an exquisite 65% silk and 35% linen blend made in Canada, combining the luxurious softness and natural sheen of silk with the light, breathable structure of linen. This yarn has an amazing drape that elevates lightweight projects, making it ideal for elegant shawls and summer tops. The silk provides a smooth, silky texture that feels cool and gentle against the skin, while the linen adds a hint of rustic texture, giving a balanced, slightly crisp feel. Silk is less prone to stretching out and the linen adds to that strength, meaning your final project should hold its shape well. Due to the blending of cellulose and natural fibers, the colors will look much more marled. Since silk is more fragile by definition, this should only be hand washed in cold water and laid flat to dry.

Note: Velveteen has no elasticity or recovery, so it’s best used for projects that do not require negative ease.

Hare Vegan Sock
40% Organic Cotton, 40% Tencel, 20% Elastic
Made in Taiwan

Heavy fingering weight: 360 yards per 100 grams

Hare is a unique blend of 40% organic cotton, 40% Tencel, and 20% elastic, offering the breathability that cotton is known for, the softness and sheen of Tencel, with stretch and recovery provided by the elastic. Thanks to the elastic content, Hare has a bouncy, wool-like flexibility, making it perfect for fitted, negative ease projects like lightweight tops, socks, and close-fitting garments that need to move with the body while maintaining their shape. The elastic does not take color, which leaves the yarn with a marled look that is less visible after multiple washes.

Note: Hare has elasticity and recovery, so it’s best used for any projects, but especially projects that require negative ease.
